The Samba-M reissue project was launched in 2021 by Gallery Tamura Joe with supervision from Kuramata Design Office, 30 years after Kuramata’s passing. Ambientec enhanced the original design with modern features including double-walled glass construction, waterproof rating, cordless operation, and built-in rechargeable battery power.

The Samba-M lamp is a beautiful blend of retro aesthetics and modern functionality. The double-walled glass construction feels premium and substantial, while the cordless design makes it incredibly versatile for different spaces. Battery life is solid for evening use, though I wish it lasted longer during extended outdoor sessions. At $776, it’s definitely an investment piece, but the build quality and unique design justify the price for those seeking statement lighting. Perfect for creating ambient mood lighting.
